An average DVD holds about 8,000 megabytes of data. 1,000 Megabytes is equal to a gigabyte, and 1,000 gigabytes is equal to a terabyte.The CEO of Google estimates that his company has indexed, or catalogued, roughly 200 TERABYTES of data so far on the Internet. He also estimates that what’s been indexed to date represents only about .004% of the total content available online. Imagine a library that already has a few million books catalogued...but the work done so far only represents .004% of all the books in the building. The same concept applies to the Internet. When you use a search engine like Google or Bing, you are searching through millions of websites that have been indexed by Google or Microsoft, representing only a tiny fraction of the content that’s actually available. There is A LOT of information out there, and a lot of it is accessible from your home computer!
